Objective To study the relationship between erectile dysfunction （ED） and the constitutions.（Method The） methods of group-sampling

cross-sectional study and case-control study were used in this research. Results According to the epidemiological analysis on 1564 samples of cross-sectional study and 962 samples of case-control study

the results showed that the gentle type of constitution had a protective effect on ED

sthenia type and asthenia type were the material bases of ED

melancholia type below the age of 30

dampness-heat type at ages of 31-50

phlegm-dampness type over the age of 50 and blood stasis type over the age of 31 had a higher morbidity of ED. The syndromes of liver depression and kidney deficiency

liver depression and spleen asthenia

liver depression and qi stagnation

liver depression and gallbladder-qi deficiency

and liver depression transforming into fire were common in the melancholia type. The syndromes of deficiency of liver-kidney yin

kidney-yin deficiency

disharmony between heart and kidney

and liver-yin insufficiency were common in yin asthenia type. The syndromes of downward flow of dampness-heat

dampness-heat of liver meridian

dampness-heat in spleen and stomach

dampness-heat combined with stasis

and dampness-heat due to yin deficiency were common in dampness-heat type. The syndromes of deficiency of both spleen and kidney

and deficiency of liver-kidney yang were common in yang asthenia type. The syndromes of abundant phlegm-dampness

and liver depression and phlegm stasis were common in phlegm-dampness type. The syndrome of qi stagnation and blood stasis was common in blood-stasis type. Conclusion ED is related to the constitutions. The constitutional types of ED is related to ages

and the syndrome manifestations of ED is related to the constitutional types.
